What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Saraliz Velando, conducted an announced Prelicensing Inspection. LPA was greeted at the front door by applicant, Mhaira Alasad. Also present was her husband, Yahya Alasad and her minor daughter who helped translate in Arabic. LPA was granted entry after identifying herself and disclosing the purpose of her visit. Licensee is using the following areas for daycare: Living room, Dining room, Kitchen, Bedroom 1, Bathroom 1. Off Limits areas are: All the second floor, Storage/playroom, Front yard, and Garage. The children are provided a safe, healthful, and comfortable environment, furnishings, and equipment. Business Hours will be Monday- Sunday, 9:00am-9:00pm. LPA tested the smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector located in the living room area and they are both functional. There is a fire extinguisher in the kitchen area that meets regulations. LPA did not observe any bodies of water on the premises. Licensee stated there are no weapons or ammunition stored on the premises and LPA did not observe any. There is a fireplace in the living room that has been screened and inaccessible to children. Storage for poisons, detergents, cleaning solutions, medications are out of reach, in off limit areas, and inaccessible to children by safety latches. Outdoor play will take place in the backyard with constant supervision. The home is kept clean and orderly with heating and ventilation for safety and comfort. Pediatric CPR and First Aid card will expire September 2023. Licensee is exempt from Mandated Reporter Training because she speaks mostly Arabic. Licensee has a current letter of declination flu shot on file. There is a working telephone and email address. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee [or facility representative] of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS. No corrections are needed and upon final review, a license for eight (8) will be granted. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee, Mhaira Alasad.
