What the inspector wrote

On 08/06/2024 at 2:31pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Selina Siao conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection for a decrease in capacity. Upon arrival, LPA met with Co-Director Mare Williams. Licensee is requesting to be licensed for 120 preschool children ages 3 to kindergarten in rooms 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Licensee is also requesting to decrease the toddler option from 48 to 36 by using classrooms 3, 4 and 5. Facility operates Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. Present during today’s inspection were 55 preschool children with 8 staff and 32 toddlers with 10 staff. Appropriate ratios and supervision were observed. All staff members have the required background clearances and are associated to the facility. All indoor and outdoor activity space utilized for the children was inspected today. LPA informed Co-Director Mare Williams that staff are required to maintain direct visual supervision of the children at all times during indoor and outdoor activities. LPA continued to tour the facility and the total preschool indoor activity space was previously measured to be 4201.63 square feet, which is sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity of 120 children. The total toddler indoor activity space was previously measured to be 1330.84 square feet, which is sufficient for the requested capacity of 36 toddlers. LPA observed all indoor activity space to be complete with safe, age-appropriate furniture and equipment, including tables, chairs, cubbies, napping mats, bookshelves, and other activity supplies for the children. Drinking water is available in the classrooms via the Britta water pitcher in each class. LPA observed all hazardous items to be inaccessible to children. Director stated that there are no bodies of water or weapons on the property. Fire clearance was granted on 07/02/2024. LPA observed a total of 10 sinks and 10 toilets available for preschool children’s use. These are sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity of 120 children. There are a total of 3 sinks and 4 toilets available for toddlers. The facility currently has a fully fenced playground area. Fencing consist of a brick wall and wrought iron fence that is at least four feet high. The total preschool outdoor activity space is 16,271.03 square feet and the total toddler outdoor activity space is 2779.38 square feet, which is sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity. Shade is provided via trees, sail shade, canopy and gazebo at the preschool outdoor area. There is wood chips under the two tire swings at the preschool play area with adequate cushioning in fall zones. There are sail shade, shade structure, umbrella and trees at the toddler outdoor playground. There are sufficient outdoor age-appropriate toys and play equipment available on the playground. Drinking water is available via the children's own water bottle during outdoor activities. LPA observed all hazardous items on the playground to be inaccessible to children. Director was reminded that any changes to the facility must be reported to and approved by Community Care Licensing. The update of the preschool license will take place on the same date when the department approve the capacity increase of the infant license. A notice of site visit was given and it must remain posted for 30 days.
