Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

On 10/09/2023 at 9:05am, Licensing Program Analysts (LPA), Samantha Clenista and Patrick Ma conducted an announced Pre-licensing follow-up inspection. Upon arrival, LPAs met with Facility Representatives, Lona Seitz (Children’s Paradise COO), Diane Prospero (Children’s Paradise Director of Child Development) and newly assigned center director, Vanessa Sanchez. LPAs took a tour of the facility per facility sketch. The initial pre-licensing inspection was conducted on 09/19/23. Purpose of this visit is to follow-up on the corrections that were needed to be corrected prior to licensure. The following were the listed corrections that LPA noted during 09/19/23 inspection: Submit a shared playground waiver request for the toddlers to share the preschool middle playground Submit a shared playground waiver request for the school-aged children to share the preschool upper playground Obtain fire clearance for the preschool to use the multi-purpose room Submit an updated indoor and outdoor facility sketch Post required postings Make the doors to the kitchen and laundry room inaccessible Add more cushioning to the falling hazard areas in the upper playground structure After the initial pre-licensing inspection, facility made a change to the multipurpose room and split it into two separate spaces, one side is designated for preschool children and the other side is a space for school-aged children, however facility is requesting to share this space with the preschool children at separate times. Updated fire clearance was provided on 09/28/23. LPAs observed a barrier in the middle of the multipurpose room that is higher than 4 ft. high. LPAs measured both sides. The preschool side measured 1,180 sq. ft. and the school-aged side measured at 1,374.55 sq. ft. The total indoor activity space for the preschool children is 3,368.16 sq. ft., sufficient for 96 children, which facility representatives stated they would like to update their capacity to reflect 96, rather than 67. An updated fee and LIC200A to reflect the new capacity shall be submitted. An updated fire clearance will also be needed. LPAs observed the above corrections to be completed during inspection, except the following items still remains pending: obtain a shared playground waiver for the toddlers to share the preschool middle playground and the school-aged children to share the preschool upper playground, submit proof of adding more cushioning under the climbing play structures located on the upper playground, submit updated fee for increasing capacity along with LIC200A, obtain an updated fire clearance to reflect updated requested capacity and make the barrier dividing the multipurpose room sturdy. Once all remaining corrections are obtained, reviewed and after conducting a final file review, a preschool license for 41 toddlers (18-36 months) in Room 1 & 2 and 96 preschoolers (ages 2-K) in Rooms 5, 6, 7 and the multipurpose room may be granted.
