Facility-requested visit·April 12, 2024

On 4/12/24 at 1:00 PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Keturah Lane conducted an unannounced case management inspection at request of Director Nora Camacho. Facility requested to add a children's garden to the existing outdoor space. Upon arrival, LPA met with interim Director Gabriela Padilla and toured the facility. LPA observed a total of 53 children during naptime (following naptime ratios) as follows: Room Whales (toddler) had 7 children with staff member Emily Fuller Room Walrus (toddler) had 6 children with staff member Erica Martinez Room Octopus (preschool) had 10 children with staff member Esteban Hernandez Room Shark (preschool) had 15 children with staff member Isabelle Quejada Room Dolphins (preschool) had 15 children with staff member Charlyn Slaughter All staff were fingerprint cleared and associated to the facility. During this visit, LPA Lane measured the new garden area. The interior playground area has not changed. The garden area is separate from the interior playground and is on the exterior side of the building. A sketch of the new garden area was not provided. LPA received an estimated area drawn on a google map of the building area from Director Nora Camacho (who is currently on leave). LPA will assist with sketch of the garden area for the facility file. LPA observed the new garden area (on exterior of building) was divided into two sections by a green coated chain link fence down the middle. Gabriela Padilla stated this was to aid the staff with supervision and keep the children separated into groups if needed. LPA will label the sections Area #1 and Area #2 on the garden sketch that will be in the facility file. Area #1 measures approximately 1,857 square feet which accommodates approximately 25 children. Area #2 measures approximately 2,830 square feet which accommodates approximately 37 children. Approximate total square footage of the entire garden space is 4,687 square feet. (continued on LIC809-C...) Interior playground space has not changed. Playground space still measures a total of 13,896 square feet (based upon previous measurements) which more than accommodates the facility's current capacity of 92 children. Total outdoor space with interior playground of 13,896 square feet plus the new exterior garden area of 4,687 square feet equals a total outdoor space of 18,583 square feet. LPA inspected the entire garden area and observed sufficient age-appropriate equipment for the children. LPA did not observe any visible hazards accessible. There are two storage sheds in the Area #2 side of the garden that were inaccessible to children. LPA has approved use of the garden area effective today 4/12/24. Back on 9/27/23, Director Nora Camacho requested to switch classrooms Whale and Octopus. This was done so that the Whale and Walrus classrooms can share the double bathroom between the two classrooms since they are both toddler age. This will make it easier to ensure that preschool and toddler classrooms do not intermingle with each other in the bathroom. Since all classrooms have a toddler fire clearance, the room switch was approved back on 9/27/23. LPA obtained an updated sketch that shows the Shark & Octopus classes on one side and the Whale, Walrus and Dolphin on the other side. There were no deficiencies cited today at this inspection. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with interim Director Gabriela Padilla. Notice of site visit was provided and must remain posted for 30 days.
