What the inspector wrote

On 08/16/2022 at 1:13 p.m., Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Rajani Goudreau arrived at the facility to conduct a pre-licensing, change of location inspection. Upon arrival LPA, met with the Director of Special Programs, Shane Schmeichel and proceeded to tour the facility. The facility is requested a capacity of 48 children; serving ages 3 through 5 years old in classrooms #102 and #700 at Silver Strand Elementary. Facility operates following the school districts calender with two sessions: Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. This facility is a Title-5 program. The classrooms were inspected and measured during this inspection and measured a total of 2,041.95 square feet, which is sufficient to accommodate 58 children. Licensee representative has agreed to lower requested capacity from 72 to 48 children. The classrooms are equipped with age appropriate furniture, including tables, chairs, cubbies, bookshelves, and other materials for the children. Classroom #102 contains a restroom with one toilet and one sink. Also, there is one sink in classroom #102. Classroom #700 has two sinks and two restrooms each containing one toilet and one sink available for the children\342\200\231s use. In addition, there is two restrooms in building #700 adjacent to classroom #102 containing one sink and four toilets in one restroom and the other restroom one sink and 2 toilets. The two restrooms located in building #100 will be shared with the transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten programs at the school. There is a total of nine toilets and eight sinks available for children's use in the facility. The number of toilets and sinks is sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity of 48 children. Children are to be escorted and supervised by staff to and from the bathroom and the playground and direct visual observation is required. Drinking water is available indoors and outdoors by the use of water fountains. Restroom waiver request received at time of inspection. See LIC809-Continuation page. The nurse\342\200\231s office and nurse\342\200\231s restroom will be used as an isolation area for ill children. There is a functioning carbon monoxide detector in the classroom and a first aid kit with required supplies. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions and other items that could pose a danger shall be stored where they are inaccessible to children. Breakfast, Lunch and Snack will be provided by the school district. The center will be utilizing Digital sign in and sign out. Required documents are posted. The outdoor play areas are located near classrooms #102 and #700. The outdoor play area adjacent to classroom #102 was inspected and measured a total of 11,127.19 square feet. The outdoor space adjacent to classroom #700 was inspected and previously measured at 4,404.65 square feet on April 28, 2021. Total outdoor spaces measured 15,531.84 square feet, which is sufficient to accommodate 207 children. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and free of hazards. The play structures have cushioning material to absorb falls by the use of rubber matting. There is shade in the outdoor areas by the use of building awnings and shade kites over the play structures. The play equipment is age appropriate. Proper supervision and placement of staff on the playground was advised to ensure the supervision and the safety of children. The outdoor play area adjacent to classroom #102 is shared with the schools TK and Kindergarten programs. Playground waiver request received at time of inspection. A fire clearance for 72 children (ages 3 through 5 years old) in classrooms #102, #700 was granted on July 05, 2022. Updated fire clearance will be obtained due to change in requested capacity from 72 to 48 children. No deficiencies issued during today\342\200\231s inspection. Exit interview was conducted with Director of Special Program, Shane Schmeichel. After review and approval of the waivers a license for 48 children (3 through 5 years old) in classroom #102 and #700 will be granted. Notice of Site visit shall be posted for 30 days from today's date.
