What the inspector wrote

LPAs (Licensing Program Analysts) Saraliz Velando and Joelle Redding, conducted an unannounced annual inspection and decrease in capacity. LPAs disclosed the purpose of the inspection and was granted entry by Director, Leone (Power) Paul. LPAs toured the facility with the Director. LPA observed 63 children and 9 staff. There are 5 classrooms designated for preschool use. A review of staff records today indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions. The licensee has not exceeded the conditions, limitations and capacity specified on the license. All staff is certified in CPR and Pediatric First aid and Mandated Reporter training and have current proof in their files. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, poisons and other items that are dangerous to children are inaccessible. Furniture and equipment are in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. All toilets, handwashing facilities are in safe and sanitary operating condition. All floors are clean and safe. The facility was observed to be clean, safe, sanitary and in good repair to ensure the safety and well-being of children, employees and visitors. Facility maintains a carbon monoxide detector that meets regulations in room #2. Children are provided snacks and lunch. Facility has emergency snacks on hand, stored appropriately and meeting nutritional requirements. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in safe condition and free of hazards. The areas around or under high climbing equipment, slides, and similar equipment was cushioned with material that absorbs a fall. Children were observed to be under the supervision of qualified staff. Facility was observed to be within ratio. An isolation area has been designated for children who become ill during the day. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees, and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA reviewed storage of “medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. This facility is currently licensed for 97 children ages 2 thru Kindergarten, to include up to 12 School Age children. Licensee submitted an application to the department to decrease the capacity to 80 children as the Infant program will now be using Room #4. The facility has also requested to add the school age room (#9) to the preschool. The measured capacity is 482.9 sq ft which allows up to 13 children. The total measured capacity will now be 93 children for rooms #5-9. Sufficient for facility’s requested capacity of 80 children. Room 9 was inspected for age appropriate equipment, furniture, supplies and materials. Drinking water is available for the children in and outside the classroom. Room 9 is approved for use and will be added to the preschool license and the decrease will be recorded and a license sent for posting. No deficiencies were issued today. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Director Leone (Power) Paul.
