What the inspector wrote

On 5/28/2021 at 11:01am, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Selina Siao conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection for the purpose of decrease as the facility will be using part of the licensed areas for a new infant program. Upon arrival, LPA Siao met with Director Gail Filkins to measure the new areas. No children are in care today as it's the facility\342\200\231s staff development day. This facility is currently licensed to care for 51 children and licensee has submitted an application to reduce their capacity to 28 children. Facility will continue to operate will 16 toddlers ages (18 months to 3 years old) in the Lady Bugs and Owls classrooms. The Yellow Ducks is the preschool classroom and will serving children ages two to Kindergarten. A fire clearance for the requested capacity of 28 children was granted on 05/05/2021. All three classrooms were remeasured today be 1204.65 which is sufficient for 34 children. There is a total of 3 sink and 2 toilets available for children. The preschool playground located at the rear of the building remeasured to be 1632.24 square feet which is sufficient for 21 children. There is a large connected preschool playground located under the property 1969 Chicago Street and the playground is 2561.51 square feet which is sufficient for 34 children. The preschool children have access to both preschool playground areas. There is a separate toddler yard located next to the Lady Bugs Room remeasured to be 959.64 square feet which is sufficient for 12 children. Facility appears to be in substantial compliance. Areas have age appropriate furniture and equipment. Capacity decrease to care for 28 children is granted effective today. The toddler playground does not have sufficient outdoor activity space to care for up to 16 children. A waiver for outdoor activity space is required by scheduling no more than 12 children to be at the toddler playground. Facility was advised to post the Notice of Site Visit and that failure to keep it posted will result in $100 civil penalty. Analyst read the report to licensee during the tele-inspection. A copy of the report will be e-mailed to the Director and she was advised that acknowledgement of the receipt of the report is to be received within twenty-four hours.
