On the above date and time, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Kelly Gerth arrived at the Child Care Center (CCC) on a case management inspection, to follow-up on an Unusual Incident Report (UIR) received by Community Care Licensing (CCL) on April 02, 2026. LPA met with Director Sonja Downs to discuss the incident reported. The UIR stated that on March 26, 2026 staff requested Director assistance to the outdoor play area. Director observed what appeared to be an small injured and sickly wildlife on the cement wall of the playground that borders a small creek and wooded area running behind the CCC. Children were on the opposite side of the outdoor activity space at the time and the Director relocated the wildlife off premise. The wildlife was transported to the local animal control. During the visit, LPA observed the area where the wildlife was found and discussed the incident with the Director. After the wildlife was brought to animal control, the Public Health Department (PHD) received notification and contacted the CCC to confirm that no children or staff made contact with the wildlife and provided information and Educational materials for School Infectious Disease prevention and response. The CCC notified parents of the incident and also shared the information and materials that were shared by the PHD. Based on the information obtained during the visit, there appears to be no violations of Title 22 Regulations pertaining to the reported incident and LPA determined that the facility took the necessary steps to ensure the safety of all children in care. An exit interview was conducted, a copy of this report and Notice of site visit was provided to Director Sonja Downs who was reminded it must remain posted for 30 days.
