What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Tyra Block conducted an unannounced annual inspection with the Licensee, Atria Lutz. The single story home was toured and inspected to ensure an environment safe for the care and supervision of children. Present were the Licensee, 2 helpers (staff #1 and #2) and 14 day care children. including 3 infants. The fire extinguisher (3A40BC), smoke detector, and carbon monoxide detector (Nest) meet requirements and are operational. All hazardous items were latched/locked and secured out of reach of children. There are no bodies of water on the property. There is a firearm in the home located in an off-limit area that is properly stored according to regulation. A review of staff records on this date indicates that facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions, except staff #1. First Aid and CPR certifications are current and required immunizations are on file. Current Mandated Reporter training is needed for licensee and all staff. Children\342\200\231s records were reviewed and found to be in order. The last fire drill was conducted 2/9/22. Licensee has provided adequate space for the children to eat, sleep and play within the home. Area used for child care include Daycare Room, Extra Room, and Daycare Bathroom. Off limits areas include Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Office, all Bedrooms and Bathrooms in the main area of home, and Garage. They are inaccessible through use of doorknob covers or locks. The licensee has sufficient toys and equipment available for children to use. The home has a fenced backyard available for outdoor activities. Provider is hereby reminded of the following: Advised no changes should be made to the home without prior notice and/or approval from Licensing, including use of an area designated as off-limits; report suspected child abuse and neglect, maintain children\342\200\231s records according to regulation, post all required forms, ensure that all adults living or working in the home have criminal background clearances to avoid civil penalties associated with this requirement; corporal punishment, smoking, exersaucers, bouncy seats, walkers, and jumpers are not allowed in day care. All equipment that is used should be used only as intended by the manufacturer. LPA discussed SIDS and Shaken Baby Syndrome. LPA and Licensee discussed California Megan's Law and LPA provided: www.meganslaw.ca.gov . LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Incidental Medical services (IMS) policy was discussed.
