What the inspector wrote

On 8/25/23 at 9:50am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Martha Malane arrived at the facility for the purpose of a pre-licensing inspection. Upon arrival, LPA met with Director, Amanda Masiello and applicant, Bridget Wu and was led on a tour of the facility. Applicant is requesting a capacity of 20 preschool children (age 2-Kindergarten) in the preschool room. Applicant\342\200\231s planned hours of operation are Monday - Friday 7:00am - 6:00pm. The preschool room previously measured a total of 1163.47 square feet which is sufficient to accommodate 33 children; however, applicant is only requesting a capacity of 20. Classrooms are equipped with age-appropriate furniture including cots for napping, tables, chairs, cubbies, bookshelves and other materials for children. There is one (1) toilet and one (1) sink available for use the exclusive of preschool children. Applicant stated she will submit a waiver to request the infant program and preschool children share a restroom. Drinking water is available inside and outside via filtered water pitchers and refillable water bottles brought from home. There is a separate restroom for staff located upstairs next to the office. The staff restroom and office will be utilized for isolation if a child becomes ill. Disinfectants and cleaning solutions are kept inaccessible to children. Facility provides a morning and afternoon snack and parents provide lunch from home. The facility utilizes manual sign in and sign out sheets. There is an operational carbon monoxide detector. There is a first aid kit available with required supplies. There is only one outdoor activity space available, which the applicant plans to share with the infant and toddler program. The outdoor activity space measured a total of 785.05 square feet which is sufficient to accommodate 10 children, however applicant is requesting a capacity of 20 preschool children. Applicant submitted a waiver request due to lack of sufficient space and to share the outdoor space with the infant and toddler program. Shade is provided through the use of a canopy and shade sail. LPA observed toys and materials available for outdoor play. Proper supervision and placement of staff outside was discussed to ensure the safety of children at all times. Continued See LIC809C\342\200\246 Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over responsible for administration or direct supervision of staff, persons who provides care and supervision to children, and staff who have contact with children, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5-days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30-days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Facility water was tested for lead and a report stating no exceedances was received on 12/28/22. LPA reviewed with applicant the LIC 311A, Records to Be Maintained At The Facility, for child\342\200\231s records, personnel records, administrative records and documents to be posted. Applicant was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org site, a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. A fire clearance was granted 6/13/23 for 20 preschool children (age 2-Kindergraten). Prior to licensure the following is needed: \302\267 Waiver request for outdoor use reviewed by the Department \302\267 Waiver request for restroom use submitted and reviewed by the Department Exit interview conducted with Director, Amanda Masiello and applicant, Bridget Wu.
