What the inspector wrote

On December 19, 2024 at approximately 2:00pm, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Catrina Quimbo and Jovanna Badger, conducted an unannounced, case management to PFS-Bayshore Midway. LPAs met with site supervisor, Teri Shepard, and explained the purpose of the visit. Facility is a combination center of a preschool and infant licenses. Under the preschool license, present during LPAs' visit included 35 preschool children and 11 teaching staff. Preschool program is licensed for classrooms #3-7. Preschool program is currently operating in classrooms 3, 4 and 7. Preschool program is not currently operating in classroom 5 and 6 due to construction. Program director previously informed department of construction. PFS program requested to operate in portables 1 and 2 as a substitute of classroom 5 and 6. No capacity increase was requested. Fire inspection was previously conducted. As of this date, fire clearance has not been obtained. LPAs inspected portable classrooms 1 and 2 for health and safety hazards and measured to verify capacity. Portable 1 was measured for 741 sq. ft. allowing for a capacity of 21 children. Portable 2 was measured for 740.9 sq. ft. allowing for a capacity of 21 children. LPAs observed classrooms to be clean, with appropriate furniture and equipment. There are a variety of toys and materials that are new and in good condition. Classrooms include activities for manipulative, writing, art, science, dramatic play, and quiet reading areas. There are carpets in the classrooms that are free of stains. LPAs observed electrical outlets in classroom to be made inaccessible with child safety covers. Classrooms are equipped with a fully charged fire extinguisher, fire alarm system, and fully stocked first aid kit. Per site supervisor, smoke detectors in classrooms are dual smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Per director, fire department tested detectors. Food will be prepared in facility kitchen and will be brought to portables. Classrooms are equipped with a dishwasher, refrigerator, and storage area. Portable 2 includes a separate, adult restroom. Storage for children's belongings are located inside each classroom. LPAs observed licensing documents to be posted in both classrooms, available for review. (Continue Report on Page 2...) (Continued, Page 2...) LPAs did not observe poisons, cleaning solutions and chemicals to be stored in classrooms. There is a shared restroom between the two portables, equipped with appropriate sanitation products. There are 3 toilets in the shared restroom that are equipped with 3 sinks. There are 2 additional sinks in each portable classroom as well. Total allowable capacity for toilets is 45 children. Total allowable capacity for sinks is 105 children. LPAs observed toilets and sinks to be in working condition. LPAs will approve for portables 1 and 2 when fire clearance is obtained. No deficiencies were issued during today's visit. Notice of site visit was given and must remain posted. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with facility representative, Teri Shepard.
