What the inspector wrote

On 04/15/25 at approximately 2:15pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Katie Krenn conducted an unannounced annual inspection. LPA met with staff and explained the purpose of today's visit. Present in the facility when LPA arrived was two staff caring for 10 children (3 infants and 7 preschoolers). The licensee arrived at 3pm. A thrid staff member arrived later. The licensee has a large license and is operating within the capacity limits and ratios. Licensee rents home, which is a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom, single level duplex house. Licensee lives alone. The hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8am - 5:30pm. Daycare areas are: Living Room, Dining area, Bedroom #1, #2, and #3, Bathroom #1, and Back yard. Off limit areas are: Kitchen, Laundry area, (detached) Garage, and Front yard. All off limit areas are properly barricaded. LPA observed that the facility license, the Notification of Parental Rights poster, and emergency disaster plan was visible to the public. LPA printed a copy of the Earthquake Preparedness Checklist. LPA inspected the indoor and outdoor daycare areas to identify health and safety hazards. LPA reviewed the emergency disaster drill log and found the most recent emergency disaster drill that had been recorded was conducted in August 2023. LPA observ ed that it was documented. The home had a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, and a carbon monoxide and smoke detector. The licensee's CPR/First Aid certification expires in September 2025. continued on page 2 page 2 LPA observed that the home's interior was clean and orderly, with proper heating and ventilation. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, poisons, and other hazardous items were stored in areas inaccessible to children. The bathroom was clean, fully operational, and equipped with suitable toileting equipment and sanitation products. LPA observed that the daycare areas had age-appropriate toys, furniture, and educational materials. The heater was covered. A designated area was provided for storage of the children's clothing and personal belongings. Electrical outlets were fitted with child safety covers or tamper-resistant locks to prevent children's access. According to the licensee, there are no firearms or weapons on the property. The backyard is surrounded by a fence and features a variety of outdoor play equipment, all of which are in excellent condition. LPA did not observe any pools, spas, or bodies of water on the property. The licensee stated she currently provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the children. The licensee stated that there are no documented allergies among any of the enrolled children. The licensee stated that they are not administering any medications at this time. The facility offers different options for children to rest or nap, including cots and play yards. LPA observed that sheets and blankets were available for the children. Infant mattresses are firm and equipped with appropriately sized sheets. All play yards are well-maintained and free of loose items that could pose safety risks. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee [facility representative] of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Failure to comply with posting requirements shall result in an immediate civil penalty of $100. LPA did not review children's or staff's files during this visit. This inspection will be completed at a later date. No citations were issued today. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee.
