Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

On August 20, 2025 at approximately 8:00AM Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Katie Krenn arrived at the facility to conduct a continuation of an unannounced annual inspection. LPA met with Director, Sandhya Menon and explained that the purpose of today's visit. There were 16 preschool children being supervised by two teachers. The facility remains within its capacity limits and meets the required ratios for today\342\200\231s visit. LPA reviewed the sign in app where parents sign their children in and out of the facility. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday: 7:30AM - 5:30PM. There are no pools, spas, or bodies of water on the property. LPA observed that all required documents, such as the facility license, notification of parents\342\200\231 rights, personal rights, car seat laws, emergency disaster plan, earthquake preparedness checklist, and notice of site visit were displayed and visible to the public where children are dropped off and picked up by parents and caregivers. LPA reviewed the files of four staff members, confirming that all the necessary paperwork was complete and in order. LPA informed the director that one staff member's CPR FA paperwork was for adults only. LPA informed the director that the requirement includes Pediatric or Infant/Child. During the visit both the director and another fully qualified teacher have current Pediatric or Infant/Child FA CPR. LPA reviewed five children's files during the previous visit on July 16, 2025, so LPA did not review any children's files during this visit. continued on page 2 Page 2 LPA and the director toured the facility to inspect for health and safety hazards. LPA observed the outdoor playground has a fence that is at least four feet tall. The play equipment is in good condition and does not have sharp, loose, or pointed parts. The areas around and under climbing equipment, swings, and slides are cushioned with a rubberized tanbark type of product. There was a cover for the sandbox. Per the Director, the sandbox is covered after closure and is uncovered and inspected in the morning. Sometimes cinnamon is added to the sand. There is a large tree from the neighbor that hangs over the sandbox and the facility has good communication with the neighbor regarding tree maintenance. LPA observed age appropriate bikes and cars for riding, all in good condition. LPA was concern about a bit of exposed pipe near the wall. LPA discussed options with the director to cover the exposed pipe. Children bring reusable water bottles to school which are filled from the sinks, which have past lead water testing. If a child forgets their water bottle at home disposable cups or water bottles are available. LPA observed that the classroom had age-appropriate toys, furniture, educational materials, and designated storage space for each child labeled with their name and photo, which included cubbies with hooks and bins. LPA did not observed any accessible electrical outlets. The classroom had a bathroom with two child sized toilets and two child height sinks available for children. LPA observed that the bathroom was clean, fully operational, and equipped with suitable toileting equipment and sanitation products. A separate bathroom was available for staff. The preschool program does not currently provide lunch for the children. The families provide lunches and snacks for their children. LPA observed that each child had lunch boxes in their designated storage space. According to the director, a child does have a documented allergy, but each child consumes their own food from home. The facility has additional snacks available for the children. The facility has prescription medication available for some children. LPA observed that the medication was centrally stored, inaccessible to children, and clearly labeled. continued on page 3 Page 3 The facility offers mats for children to rest or nap. LPA observed that sheets and blankets were available for the children. The families provide blankets for their children, which are sent home on Fridays to be laundered. LPA observed the emergency drill log, which documented that the last emergency drill was documented in July 2025. LPA observed that emergency drills were documented at least every six months. LPA observed two fully charged fire extinguishers in the classrooms. To improve the quality and value of the inspection process, a survey may be sent to the email address provided.
