What the inspector wrote

On August 6, 2024, at approximately 1:10pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Maria Olguin-Leon, conducted an unannounced case management inspection at Peninsula Jewish Community Center Infant Center. Facility submitted an application on July 2024, for an increase of capacity for the infant program. LPA met with Director, Nicole Francis, and explained the purpose of the inspection. Currently facility is on summer break and not in session. Program is a licensed combination program for infants, preschool and after school. The program is adding classroom #3 room to their infant program and decreasing classroom from preschool capacity. Program is requesting to increase capacity from 29 infants to 41 infants. Director plans to use classroom #3 for infants ages 12 months to 24 months. Director was reminded that preschool children cannot commingle with the infant program. Classroom #3, previously a preschool classroom, was measured today for the infant classroom. Classroom #3 was measured for 688.5 sq ft. The total allowable capacity measured for Classroom #3 measures for 688.5 sq ft. equaling 19 infants. Classrooms #1, #2, and #10 will remain infant classrooms. Classroom #1 is for infants 6mths-12months, and the remainder of the classrooms are for 12mths \342\200\223 24mths infants. Based on LPA meaurements classroom #3 accomodates 19 infants. LPA observed classroom to be equipped with a variety of toys and equipment that are in good working condition. Classroom is equipped with a centralized fire alarm system. Carbon monoxide and smoke alarm is built into the fire alarm system. LPA observed a fully charged fire extinguisher. Electrical outlets were made inaccessible with child safety covers. Program will utilize cots for napping children that will be stored in the classroom. LPA observed room to be completely set up and ready for infant program. Cont. page 2... Page 2... Director was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA will approve infant capacity increase to from 29 to 48 infants, pending approved fire inspection clearance. A copy of this report, and the \342\200\234Notice of Site Visit\342\200\235 were given to the director. A \342\200\234Notice of Site Visit\342\200\235 must remain posted for 30 days. Failure to comply with posting requirements shall result in an immediate civil penalty of $100. An exit interview was conducted, and the report was reviewed with the Director, Nicole Francis.
