What the inspector wrote

On May 6 th , 2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Rosie Breault conducted an announced Case Management inspection at the above aforementioned center to ensure that health, safety, and personal rights as required by Title 22 and Health and Safety Regulations governing California Child Care Centers will be met. There were 105 children present during this inspection. The licensee applied to increase capacity to 54 toddlers ages 18months-36months and to 120 preschoolers ages 2 years to entry into first grade. The center operates Monday \342\200\223 Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM. This facility is on the grounds of Goleta Unified School District. LPA met with director Melanie Newhouse and together toured the facility. LPA measured the on-limits areas and classrooms located at the facility. The facility has a total of 8 classrooms. Toddlers will utilize classrooms #1, #7, and #8 and preschoolers will utilize classrooms #2, #3, #4, #5, #6. Children will have access to 17 sinks and 14 toilets. Facility utilizes BrightWheel App for signing in and out purposes. LPA observed disinfectants, cleaning solutions, poisons and other items that could pose a danger inaccessible to children. Classrooms contain sufficient number of tables and chairs, cubbies, sleeping equipment and age-appropriate toys. Carbon monoxide was tested and functioning at the time of the inspection, fire extinguisher last serviced on 07/07/2023, LPA observed first aid kits available. LPA toured and measured the outdoor play area. Both toddlers and preschoolers have their own separated play yard to prevent comingling via gates. LPA observed ample shade, age-appropriate toys and equipment and water readily accessible. Per director, no bodies of water are present on property and no firearms or ammunition present. The fire clearance was approved on 3/14/2024. The toddler indoor measurements total 2,527.22 square feet, which will accommodate applicant\342\200\231s request for 54 toddlers. The outdoor measurements total 11,220.57 square feet, which will accommodate applicant\342\200\231s request for 54 toddlers. The preschool indoor measurements total 4,345.00 square feet, which will accommodate applicant\342\200\231s request for 120 preschoolers. The outdoor measurements total 36,538.22 square feet, which will accommodate applicant\342\200\231s request for 120 preschoolers. Director was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Director was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. A Notice of Site Visit was given to the director and must remain posted on, or immediately adjacent to, the interior side of the main door for 30 days. License pending approval. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with director Melanie Newhouse.
