What the inspector wrote

On January 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elizabeth George conducted an unannounced annual random inspection at the above-mentioned family child care home (FCCH). LPA met with Licensee, Meleena Arevalo, and explained the purpose of the inspection. LPA, in the company of the Licensee, toured the interior and exterior of the FCCH. At the time of the inspection 5 children were in the care of licensee. Care is provided from 5AM \342\200\223 4PM, Monday thru Friday. Licensee stated that children have access to the living room, dining room, one bathroom, and backyard. While the remainder of the home is designated off limit areas of the day care. Off limit areas are made inaccessible by means of door safety locks. The home was orderly and clean with proper ventilation for all children in care. The bathroom used for care is clean. LPA observed toothpaste and personal care items accessible to children in the bathroom. During the inspection licensee removed the items out of children\342\200\231s reach. LPA observed that sharps and knives are stored in the kitchen on a high cabinet that is inaccessible to children in care. Licensee stated that cleaning compounds are stored in the garage which is off limits to children in care. Toys, furniture and equipment in the facility are age appropriate. LPA observed required licensing forms and documents posted by the entrance of the facility. LPA observed a dual smoke and carbon monoxide detector which was tested and found operable at 1:27 PM. LPA observed a regulation fire extinguisher that was purchased 6/25/25. LPA reminded the Licensee to either service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually. Licensee stated that fire drills are conducted and documented but could not provide the log for fire/ disaster drills. continue on 809-C LPA observed the backyard to be completely fenced. The FCCH was observed to have plenty of shade for the children in care. Toys and play equipment observed in backyard are age appropriate and in good condition. LPA observed a shed in the outdoor play area. LPA reminded licensee the shed needs to remain locked and inaccessible to the children in care. LPA observed side yards gated and inaccessible to children in care. LPA observed no bodies of water on site. Licensee informed LPA no firearms or ammunition are in the home. A sample of children\342\200\231s records was reviewed. All records reviewed are current. Facilities current roster of children was reviewed by the LPA during inspection. Licensee\342\200\231s Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification are current and expire March 2027. Mandated Reporter Training Certification expires May 2027. Assistants Mandated Reporter certifications are current. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see PIN 22-02- CCP. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. During the exit interview, the Licensee, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS. During today's inspection one Type B citation was issued under Title 22 regulations and can be found on the attached 809-D. One technical violation was issued. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted, appeals rights were provided and report was reviewed with the licensee, Meleena Arevalo.
