What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Samantha Yip and Marilou Monico conducted an unannounced Case Management- Licensee Initiated inspection. LPAs met with Director Maarit McCrossen and explained the reason for the inspection. The purpose of this inspection is the center requested for an increase in capacity from 69 to 81 children. Facility is adding the TK room. A fire clearance for 81 children was granted on 11/02/2022. Measurement indoor and outdoor was conducted. The measurements are as followed: Indoor Measurements are as followed: TK Room : 42.833 x 16.167 = 692.481 + 10.333 x 12.083 = 124.853 = 817.334 minus encumbered space 2.083 x 4.750 = 9.894 + 1.250 x 2.083 = 2.603 + 2.500 x 2.00= 5 = 17.497 = 817.334 + 17.497 = 834.831 Pre-K Room: 34.417 x 44.167 = 1520.095 minus encumbered space 4 x 1.750 = 7 + 7.083 x 12.833 = 90.896 + 6.667 x 13.333 = 88.891 + 2(1.833 x 4.167) = 15.276 = 202.063 = 1520.095 - 202.063 = 1318.032 Preschool Room: 29.583 x 22.083 = 653.281 minus encumbered space 2 x 2= 4 + 1.833 + 4.167 = 7.638 + 4 x 1.750 = 7 + 5 x 2= 10 = 28.638 = 653.281 - 28.638 = 624.643 Discover Preschool Room: 22 x 29.750 = 654.5 minus encumbered spaced 4 x 1.750 = 7 + 1.833 x 4.167 = 7.638 + 2 x 4.917 = 9.834 + 2.583 x 1.833= 4.734 = 29.206 = 625.294 Total indoor space: 834.831 + 1318.032 + 624.643 + 625.294 = 3402.8 divided by 35 = 97 children ----------------------continues of 809 dated 01/31/2023 page 2--------------------- -----------------continuation of 809 dated 01/31/2023 page 1--------------------- Outdoor measurement: Preschool Playground 80.083 x 67.417 = 5398.955 minus encumbered 2.417 x 4.167 = 10.071 + 5.167 x 2.833 = 14.638 + 2(1.167 x 1) = 3.34 = 28.049 = 5398.955 - 28.049 = 5370.906 Total outdoor space: 5370.906 divided by 75 = 71 children There are eight (8) toilets, eight (8) sinks, 70 cots, 20 tables, 102 chairs, and 84 cubbies. LPA reminded Director that she needs to have enough cots for each child. Director stated that there are some children who attend part-time. There are toys for children. There a fully charged fire extinguisher, smoke detector, and carbon monoxide detector. The center does provide meals and snacks to children. There is a kitchen to prepare and store food. Drinking water is provided through water pitcher and cups or individual water bottles. Facility submitted outdoor schedule during today's inspection. Director was advised that an updated license reflecting the request to increase capacity will be issued pending Community Care Licensing Management Approval and upon completion of: - submitting waiver request for outdoor square footage As a result of inspection, no deficiencies were issued. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Director Maarit McCrossen. A notice of site visit was issued and must remain posted for 30 days.

    Responsibility for Providing Care and Supervision. The licensee shall provide care and supervision as necessary to meet the children's needs. No child(ren) shall be left without the supervision of a teacher at any time, except as specified in Sections 101216.2(e)(1) and 101230(c)(1). Supervision shall include visual observation.This requirement is not met as evident by: Based on interview, C-1 was in the classroom by themselves, which poses an immediate risk to children in care.
