What the inspector wrote

On 08/19/2024 at 9:05am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jialing "Julianne" Zhu conducted an announced case management visit to view and discuss renovations to the outdoor play spaces scheduled to happen in August 23-24, 2024 and December 2024. LPA met with Director Senchal Rodriguez, architect (A1) who is overseeing the renovations, and the facilities manager (M1). There are four (4) designated, fully-fenced outdoor play spaces at the facility. Two (2) of the outdoor spaces are for preschool children (2-5 years old). (See LIC 809 under infant license 434415330 for details on anticipated changes for infant-toddler outdoor play spaces.) One of the two outdoor play space for preschool children (2-5 years old) is between the infant-toddler play space and the other preschool play space. The play space is fully fenced and equipped with push bar gates. On August 23-24, 2024, the anticipated changes to this area is the removal of the turf closest to the classrooms and replaced with decomposed granite. The existing areas with decomposed granite is currently covered with sand, which will be cleaned up. In December 2024, the concrete edges around the sandpit will be removed and replaced with small vertical stumps. A wooden climbing structure made of stumps will be installed in the middle of the play space, which is currently empty. The raised ground around the tree will be replaced with tanbark for cushioning. An ADA ramp will also be installed towards the entrance to the play space. The other preschool outdoor play space is the furthest from the entrance. It is fully fenced and equipped with push bar gates. On August 23-24, 2024, the walkway around the play structure will be cleaned up because it is currently covered with sand. In December 2024, the concrete edges around the sandpit will be removed and replaced with small vertical stumps. A small wooden climber will be installed in the back. Note: The renovations are subject to change as the plans are not finalized. Per architect and director, any adjustments to what is reported to LPA today will be minor. A facility sketch of the outdoor play spaces will be submitted to LPA after renovations are completed. No deficiencies were cited during today's visit. Exit interview was conducted with Director Senchal Rodriguez. Notice of Site Visit and Appeal Rights were provided.
