What the inspector wrote

On 03/14/23 at approximately 12:50pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Briana Plumboy met with Director Dana Tanaka for an UNANNOUNCED ANNUAL REQUIRED INSPECTION for Little Acorn Christian Preschool. Present for the inspection was 8 infants, the Director, and 2 teachers who are fingerprint cleared. The Child Care Center is within ratio. The program for the preschool children operates from 8:30am to 5:30pm. The Child Care Center was toured to conduct a Health and Safety Inspection. LPA inspected the Infant Component of the Child Care Center. PHYSICAL PLANT: The entrance of the school are doors leading to a hallway of classrooms. The school is located on the same campus as First Presbyterian Church. There is one infant classroom called the Seed Classroom. The parents sign in and out through an app called Bright Wheel. The classrooms have cubbies with children’s names on them. The classroom has a changing table that is within arm reach of a sink. There is a menu posted on the parent board and in the kitchen/ storage area. LPA observed see through cribs and sleeping cots available for children. The isolation area is by the Director’s office. LPA observed the bulletin board. All hazardous materials and toxins are kept out of reach from children and are not accessible during today's inspection. The Child Care Center has one fully charged fire extinguisher 3A40BC, a working smoke detector, a carbon monoxide detector, a telephone and a fully stocked first aid kit. The furniture around the classrooms and outdoor area are adequate for children to use. The learning materials are organized, and toys are kept in safety bins and cabinets for easy access for the children. FOOD & SNACK: The school provides an option to purchase lunch, or children have the option to bring food from home. Water is provided to the children and infants bring their own milk from home. See 809-C for continuance OUTDOOR: LPA Plumboy observed the outdoor play area which consist of small toys and objects for infants to play with. The infant play area is separated from the preschool play area. There are no play structures present during today's inspection which are required to be anchored. The outdoor play area is also fenced all around with secured gates. There are no bodies of water on the premises. There are no firearms on premises. RECORDS : At 1:06pm LPA reviewed 6 children’s files and 2 staff files and documented them on LIC 859 and LIC 857. The Director and staff have completed the Health and Safety training and CPR/First Aid is current. The Director and Staff are following the immunization laws and have completed the mandated reporter training. The Director has conducted and documented the fire and disaster drills at least twice a year and the last conducted drill was on 2/14/23. All required forms are posted and visible for public view. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. Director is reminded that ALL assistants, volunteers, and staff, that are 18 years of age or older must be fingerprint cleared and associated to this facility prior to being in the presence of children in care or an immediate civil penalty will be assessed from $100 to $3000 per person, per incident. Director was reminded of the responsibility as a mandated reporter. All forms can be downloaded at www.ccld.ca.gov LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with Director Dana Tanaka and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed Director Dana Tanaka of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. No deficiencies cited during today's inspection. Appeal rights provided and discussed. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Director Dana Tanaka.
