Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs), Cortney Nelson and Ashley Lopez, met with Site Director, Viviana Sedano, for temporary relocation of preschool program located at the facility. Due to road collapse behind Green Valley Christian School, the building has been red tagged and the preschool is relocating to Green Valley Christian Center, a church located on the property. The church will be closed to public use during the hours the school is in operation. Building Inspector, Jose Perez, from City of Watsonville conducted inspection and confirmed that the church main building is approved for full use as the sewer line has been temporarily repaired. Viviana states that they are planning to resume use of the school this upcoming fall (August 2023) and will use the church for temporary use until then. LPAs toured inside and outside during todays inspection. The preschool will be relocated to the nursery room (#301) and toddler room (#302). LPAs observed sufficient toys and materials for the children that are age-appropriate and in good condition. Viviana states that the rooms will be shared with the church on Sundays, however will be exclusively used by the preschoolers Monday-Friday. Children in grades K-8th are also utilizing the church and will be sharing the restrooms. LPAs advised Viviana to submit a waiver request for shared use of the bathrooms during the school day. There is a restroom located in room #301 that could be used to isolate a child if necessary. Viviana states that the facility only provides snack and will use the Ministry Room to store and prepare them. In room #302 there are three (3) tables, eighteen (18) chairs, two (2) high chairs, and one (1) sink. In room #301 there are four (4) chairs, one (1) table, one (1) sink, and one (1) toilet. There are sixteen (16) nap mats available for the children and Viviana states at most 14 children are anticipated to nap each day. LPAs observed a first-aid kit and properly stored EpiPen for child in care. The required postings are near the front entrance to room #302. LPAs advised that cubbies/hooks/bins are needed for storing children's personal belongings/nap materials. Viviana states that she will plan to store the children's nap materials in the nook area near the door in room #301. There is a built in fire detector for the building and fire clearance was completed on 3/30/2023. There are two (2) 2A10BC fire extinguishers located in the church lobby. LPAs advised a carbon monoxide detector is needed. Indoor Measurements: Toddler Room (#302) 18.167 x 27.500 = 499.5925 encumbered space: 2.167 x 9.333 = 20.224611 (sink/counter) 8.167 x 5.583 = 45.596361 (check-in/drop off area) = 65.820972 499.5925 - 65.820972 (encumbered space) = 433.771528 Nursery Room (#301) 6.333 x 25.750 = 163.07475 36.167 x 26.083 / 2 = 471.67193 encumbered space: 2.167 x 4.667 = 10.113389 (sink/counter) 2.167 x 12.167 = 26.365889 (counter) 2.250 x 5.500 = 12.375 (counter) 634.74668 - 48.854278 (encumbered space) = 585.892402 Total: 433.771528 + 585.892402 = 1019.66393 / 35 SQ feet = 29 children The facility plans to utilize both rooms for the preschoolers and will leave the door in between the rooms open during the time children are in care. While the school is in session, children in grades K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 5th will be on campus Monday & Wednesday. Children in grades 4th, 6th, 7th, & 8th will be on campus Tuesday & Thursday. On Friday, school-age children will be on campus for a half day and alternate attendance between both groups. The outside space was observed to be fenced in and comprised of a large blacktop area and grass area. There are 10 picnic tables located outside that Viviana states will be used for the children when they eat snack.
