Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Cortney Nelson, met with Licensee, Lisa Patterson, and Site Director, Amy Fair, and explain purpose of today's visit. The facility has closed their infant/toddler components and is increasing the capacity of the preschool component. The facility will enroll children ages 2-5 years old and the hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM. Upon arrival, LPA was admitted by the Licensee, Lisa, and toured inside and outside the facility during today's inspection. The facility will be adding the "two's" classroom to the preschool capacity, located on the second floor. The previous infant room will now be used as a staff area and the napping room is now a storage room. LPA observed the "two's" classroom is equipped with three tables, nineteen chairs, fifteen cubbies, sixteen cots, and a changing table within arms reach of a sink. Lisa states that there are additional tables and chairs available at the facility if needed. The facility has a built in fire detection system, has a functioning carbon monoxide detector, and has two 3A40BC fire extinguishers. INDOOR MEASUREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS: "Two's" Classroom: 23.750 x 19.417 = 461.154/ 35 SQ FT= 13 children Pre-Licensing Measurements (8/31/2011): 1984.186/ 35 SQ FT= 56 children Total: 69 children Lisa states that there have not been any changes to the outside play area since the pre-licensing inspection conducted 8/31/2011. LPA observed that there is a playground, sandbox, bikes, and other toys outside for the children to play with. Shade is provided by large trees, canopies, and overhang above the sandbox. Water is available for children via drinking fountain located outside and Lisa states that the children bring their water bottles outside while playing. No bodies of water were observed during today's inspection. OUTDOOR MEASUREMENT ARE AS FOLLOWS: Pre-Licensing Measurements (8/31/2011): 4259.703/ 75 SQ FT= 56 children Total: 56 children LPA advised that because the outdoor square footage measures for 56 children and indoor measurements are for 69 children that a waiver shall be submitted for staggered outdoor play schedule to ensure that the outdoor area does not exceed 56 children at any time. Copies of daily schedule for all classrooms shall be submitted to show staggered play schedule for outside area. The facility has three classrooms for the preschool component, the "sunshine" room (ages 4 turning 5), the "twinkler" room (ages 3 turning 4), and the "two's" room (ages 2 turning 3). There are two toilets and four sinks in the "twinker" room, six toilets and six sinks in the "sunshine" room, and one toilet and one sink in the "two's" room. The total for the facility is nine toilets (135 capacity) and eleven sinks (165 capacity). There are separate staff restrooms that can be utilized for isolating a sick child if necessary. A fire inspection was conducted by Scotts Valley Fire Department on 10/4/2023 and was approved for 56 children. LPA advised that follow-up will be conducted with Scott's Valley Fire Department for the measured capacity of 69 children. AM/PM snack is provided by the facility and children bring their own lunch. The kitchen is located on the first floor and snack will be walked upstairs by a staff member to be served to children. There is a brita water filter located in the classroom for drinking water. The snack menu is posted for parents. LPA observed all required postings near the entrance of the facility. LPA advised that a new license will be generated for increased capacity and shall be posted with waiver once approved. As a result of today's inspection, no deficiencies were cited. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Licensee, Lisa Patterson, and Site Director, Amy Fair. LPA advised that a license for increased capacity will be given following manager review and the following corrections: -Submission of waiver request for outdoor space and daily schedule for all classrooms (provided during inspection) -Updated Application for a Child Care Center for capacity of 69 (provided during inspection) -Fire clearance signed/reviewed by Scott's Valley Fire Department for capacity of 69
