What the inspector wrote

A prelicensing inspection was conducted today by Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), J. Snow. LPA met with facility representative Christine Knowles. Applicant is requesting to be licensed for # 10 toddlers, age 18-36 months. Hours of operation will be Monday -Friday, 7:30am to 2:30pm. The facility uses entire building. Closed winter and spring break per school district holidays. The indoor and outdoor activity spaces were toured, and the facility sketch was verified. The following areas will be off limits to children: the kitchen, offices and staff room have been made off-limits by means of a gate. There is a full industrial kitchen to store/prepare meals. Children will nap on mats in the classroom. The isolation area for sick children will be located in the office. The changing table will be located next to a sink in the classroom. The outdoor play area is fully fenced. There is an anchored play structure with slide for children to play on and adequate cushioning underneath. There is a monkey bar that will be off limits and made inaccessible by the children being unable to reach the bars (it is labeled off-limits). There is no pool, spa, pond, fountain, or any other body of water on the premises. The poisons are key locked in the laundry room. There is safe and age appropriate furniture, toys, and play equipment available for children. continued on 809c A capacity worksheet was completed during the visit. The inside, room square footage measured 934. Children have access to at least 2 toilets & 4 sinks. The outside, yard square footage measured 3588. Based on above, sufficient for the requested capacity of 10 toddlers. Proof of the following items need to be completed/submitted & approved prior to the granting the license for 10 toddlers: 1. Director, Melissa Reddick infant units 2. Proof of 10 toddler chairs & 10 sleep mats 3. Proof of lock box or locking cabinet for medications 4. Changing table for diapering Criminal Record Clearance - Child Care Centers: Christine Knowles was reminded that all adults 18 and over responsible for administration or direct supervision of staff, persons who provides care and supervision to children, and staff who have contact with children, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5-days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30-days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA also informed [applicant, licensee, or facility representative] of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at: https://www.cpsc.gov/ , and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. MyChildCarePlan.org--Child Care Centers and Family Child Care Home: Christine Knowles was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org site, a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California.
