On June 3 , 2025 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Giovani Gonzalez conducted an unannounced Annual Random inspection at the above-mentioned Family Child Care Home (FCCH). LPA met with licensee Maria Varela and informed them the purpose of the inspection. At the time of the inspection 2 children were present. LPA in the company of the licensee toured the interior of the FCCH. LPA notes the home uses the living room, dining area and 1 bathroom for child care purposes while the remainder of the home is excluded from care. LPA observed the children's area to be clean and free of hazards. LPA observed the children's area to have age appropriate equipment in good condition. LPA observed the home to have 2 fire places which are covered. LPA informed licensee they must secure the gate to ensure inaccessibility to children. LPA observed drawers and cabinets in the in the dining room to be free of hazards. LPA observed the kitchen to be made inaccessible to children with a child proof gate. LPA observed sharps to be elevated and inaccessible to children. LPA observed the medication to be on an elevated surface beyond the reach of children. LPA observed the bathroom used for child care purposes to be clean and free of hazards. LPA reminded licensee they must ensure all personal care items are out of reach of children. Licensee informed LPA they do not use the backyard for child care purposes. Licensee stated they take children to the park. LPA discussed active supervision with licensee. LPAs observed the FCCH to have a smoke and a carbon monoxide detector which were tested at 11:17AM and found in working order. The FCCH to have a regulation fire extinguisher which was serviced on 2/10/2025. LPAs reminded licensee to either service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually. CONTINUED PAGE 2 LPAs reviewed a sample of children's files which were found to be current and complete. Licensee informed LPA they have not been documenting Safe Sleep 15-minute checks. 1 Type B deficiency is being issued as a result. LPA reviewed assistant's file and observed they did not have a current Mandated Reporter Certificate. LPA observed licensee to have a certificate which expired 3/2024. 1 Type B deficiency is being issued as a result. LPAs observed the licensee to have a current Pediatric CPR/ First Aid (completed 9/1/24). LPA reminded licensee it is their responsibility to ensure all certificates and training are current. Licensee informed LPA there are no fire arms in the home. To improve the quality and value of the new inspection process, a survey may be sent to the email address provided. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. CONTINUED PAGE 3 During the exit interview, the Licensee, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS. 2 Type B deficiency was issued during today's inspection. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee Maria Varela. Appeal Rights were given.
