What the inspector wrote

On April 23, 2025 Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Giovani Gonzalez and Cynthia Alverez conducted an unannounced Required - 3 Year inspection at the above-mentioned Family Child Care Home (FCCH). LPAs met with licensee Colleen King and informed them the purpose of the inspection. At the time of the inspection 8 children and 1 assistant were present. LPAs in the company of the licensee toured the interior and exterior of the FCCH. LPAs note the FCCH uses the living room, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and kitchen for child care purposes. LPAs observed the living room to have plenty of ventilation and equipment for children in care. LPAs observed the kitchen and hallway is made inaccessible to children with child proof gates. Licensee informed LPAs the kitchen is used to feed children. LPAs observed sharps and cleaning compounds to be stored on an elevated surface beyond the reach of children in care. LPAs observed the bedrooms to be used for napping. LPAs observed 2 infants in play pens to be sleeping with blankets. 1 Type B deficiency is being as a result. LPAs reminded licensee they must ensure bedrooms are free of hazards at all times. LPAs observed the bathrooms to be clean. LPAs reminded licensee they must ensure all hygiene products are inaccessible to children in care. LPAs observed medication to be stored in an elevated shelf beyond the reach of children in care. LPAs observed the backyard to be completely enclosed. LPAs observed the backyard to have plenty of space for children's activities. LPAs observed the backyard to have plenty of children's equipment in good condition. LPAs observed the exit ways to be secured with latches that are beyond the reach of children. LPAs did not observe any bodies of water on site. CONTINUED PAGE 2 LPAs observed the FCCH to have a smoke and a carbon monoxide detector which were tested at 2:35PM and found in working order. The FCCH to have a regulation fire extinguisher which was serviced on 9/16/2024. LPAs reminded licensee to either service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually. LPAs reviewed a sample of children's files which were found to be current and complete. LPAs observed the FCCH to have current sleep 15 minute checks (last entry 4/23/25). LPAs reviewed the assistant's file which was found to be complete. LPAs observed assistant and licensee to have a current Mandated Reporter Traning certificate (completed 4/11/24). LPAs observed the licensee to have a current Pediatric CPR/ First Aid. LPAs reminded licensee it is their responsibility to ensure all certificates and training are current. Licensee informed LPAs there are no fire arms in the home. To improve the quality and value of the new inspection process, a survey may be sent to the email address provided. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended. CONTINUED PAGE 3 Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. During the exit interview, the Licensee, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS. 1 Type B deficiency was issued during today's inspection. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee Colleen King. Appeal Rights were given.
