Handle syringes and needles under bloodborne pathogen rules

Based on LPA inspection review, the licensee did not comply with the section cited above as LPA observed two syringe disposal locations without a container which poses/posed a potential health, safety or personal rights risk to persons in care.

Based on LPA file review the licensee did not comply with the section cited above as LPA observed the training plan reviewed did not meet title 22 requirements for dementia training incorporating 8 hours of training annually which poses/posed a potential health, safety or personal rights risk to persons in care.

87705 Care of Persons with Dementia (a) This section applies to licensees who accept or retain residents diagnosed by a physician to have dementia...(h)Outdoor facility space used for resident recreation and leisure shall be completely enclosed by a fence with self-closing latches and gates, or walls, to protect the safety of residents.This was not met as evidenced by: Based on facility incident report and documentation, the licensee did not ensure the facility gates stayed locked during construction services. This posed an immediate health and safety issue to persons in care.

Give PRN medication by physician order

Incidental Medical and Dental CareIf the resident's physician has stated in writing that the resident is unable to determine his/her own need for nonprescription PRN medication but can communicate his/her symptoms clearly, facility staff designated by the licensee shall be permitted to assist the resident with self-administration, provided all of the following requirements are met: Once ordered by the physician the medication is given according to the physician's directions. This requirement is not met as evidenced by: Staff administered the incorrect medication to R1 that belonged to R2.Based on interviews Licensee did not ensure prescribed medication(s) were administered to R1 as prescribed. This posed a potential health and safety risk to residents in care.
