What the inspector wrote

On 10/2/2025, at 1:30 p.m., Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Cindy Meier conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection and met with Assistant, Vanessa Jay. Licensee, Lanasha Herriott was away from the facility picking up children. LPA disclosed the purpose of the inspection and was led on a tour of the facility indoors and outdoors. This facility is a one story, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house. The following areas are used for childcare: living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom #2, bedroom #3, fenced front yard. Off limits areas include: garage, bedroom #1 (master), bathroom #1 (master), bedroom #2 and backyard which are made inaccessible through the use of a safety gate and safety locks. Hours of operation hours are Monday – Sunday, 23 hours. Present during the inspection were assistant and five (5) children. The fire extinguisher, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector met requirements. Hazardous items were inaccessible to children in care. LPA informed licensee poisons shall be placed in a storage area and locked. LPA did not observe any poisons during the inspection. The storage area for poisons is locked. LPA observed toys and materials available for children’s use. The home has a fenced front yard available for outdoor activities. The back yard is Off Limits. LPA informed licensee to ensure children are supervised at all times during outdoor activities. There is a fireplace on the premises that is barricaded by a screen. Licensee stated there are no bodies of water. LPA did observe a non-functioning fountain in the off-limit back yard which is inaccessible to the children by a locked sliding door and a sliding door alarm. Assistant stated there are no firearms, other weapons, or ammunition in the home. A review of staff records on this date indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions. LPA reviewed children’s files. Children’s files reviewed were complete and met regulations. Safe sleep log for infants is maintained and documented. Liicensee and assistant (S1's) Mandated Reporter training and EMSA Pediatric CPR and First aid certifications are valid. Licensee maintains documentation of proof of control of property for review by the Department. Property Owner/Landlord Consent form LIC9149 is on file, signed by landlord and approves licensee to care for fourteen (14) children. Fire clearance was granted 6/9/2022. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Facility roster is maintained and was reviewed. The licensee conducted and documented a fire and disaster drill on 9/25/2025. Required documents are posted. There is one crib or play yard for each infant who is unable to climb out of the crib or play yard. This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep , as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at: https://www.cpsc.gov/ , and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. There were no deficiencies cited during today's inspection. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
