What the inspector wrote

On 9/20/21, at 11:45 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elvin Baddley conducted an unannounced Required Inspection the abovementioned Child Care Center (CCC). The LPA met with Jamie Sanbonmatsu, Director of the CCC and explained the purpose of the inspection. The LPA, in the company of Director, toured the interior and exterior of the CCC. The center operates from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday and is on the ground of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Arroyo Grande. The preschool uses five classrooms (Classroom One- Pre Kindergarteners , Classroom Two- ages 4, Classroom Three- ages 3 and Classroom Five- ages 2 and the Community Room) for child care. LPA observed 30 children on site during the inspection along with ten teachers (cleared and associated) providing care and supervision. The classrooms of the CCC are clean and organized. The classrooms have age appropriate toys and furnishings available for children in care. The CCC has operable carbon monoxide detectors in each room. A carbon monoxide detector was tested in the office at 12:50 PM and found to be operable. The restrooms used by children in care are in safe and sanitary operating condition. LPA observed an operable refrigerator in the office area and noted snacks are provided by the CCC, while children in care bring lunches from their respective homes. Staff members ensure children's lunch contain food from the essential food groups. LPA also observed a CCC's menu near the entry of the CCC. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions and sharps are secured classroom cabinet which are inaccessible to children. Medication is secured in the CCC's office area. LPA notes the Community Room of the CCC's has an inactive fireplace which is covered by a metal gate/covering. The CCC's play area is enclosed by wooden fencing. The fences' entry/exit gates are secured.LPA observed age appropriate toys and play equipment in the play area. The toys and play equipment are in suitable condition and free of sharp, loose or pointed objects. The play structures in the play areas have adequate cushioning materials to absorb falls (i.e. wood chips) and an abundance of shade created by trees and building overhangs. No bodies of water were observed on site. Child safety gates are at the base of the stairs near the dramatic play area. There is available (filtered) drinking water for children both inside the classroom (CONT. 809-C) and outside in the play area. Waste receptacles with tight fitting covers were observed throughout the center. LPA reviewed posted licensing required notices and documents on varies wall of the CCC. Sign In/Out forms which are just outside of the CCC's entry door were reviewed by the LPA and found to be completed appropriately. A sampling of staff and children's records were reviewed. The children\342\200\231s records were complete and found to contain emergency contact information as well as immunizations. Staff records were reviewed and contained health assessments as well we as Mandated Reported and Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications. Director informed LPA no firearm or ammunition are stored on the premises. This facility provides Incidental Medical Services (IMS). LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children\342\200\231s, personnel, and administrative records. The topic of face coverings was discussed in detail. Director was reminded that it is Director's responsibility to know the regulations for a CCC which can be accessed on-line at www.ccld.ca.gov . In areas evaluated, there were no deficiencies cited at this time. THE NOTICE OF SITE VISIT WAS POSTED AS REQUIRED BY H&S CODE SEC. 1596.817. THE NOTICE OF SITE VISIT MUST REMAIN POSTED FOR 30 DAYS OR A CIVIL PENALTY OF $100.00 WILL APPLY
