What the inspector wrote

On 6/17/21, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elvin Baddley conducted an unannounced Required inspection of the abovementioned Family Child Care Home (FCCH). LPA met with Melinda Collins, Licensee of the FCCH and explained the purpose of the inspection. LPA, in the company of Licensee toured the interior and exterior of the FCCH. The home\342\200\231s living room,converted bedroom, hall way bathroom and back yard are used for child care services, while the home\342\200\231s upstairs and and craft room are excluded from child care. At the time of the inspection 10 children are present, along with an assistant providing supervision. The FCCH has ventilation to afford for child care and LPA observed no hazardous items on site . LPA observed cleaning compounds stored in a locked cabinet underneath the sink in the kitchen area. Medication was observed on an elevated self in the kitchen which is inaccessible to children. Sharps in the kitchen are in the far corner of a kitchen counter which is behind a small appliance and beyond the reach of children in care. LPA observed child safety gates at the base of the FCCH's stairwell. Toys, furniture and equipment observed in the FCCH are age appropriate. Required forms are predominantly posted in the FCCH's living home on the side of a cabinet/shelf. The FCCH has a fireplace which is screened by a locked glass and inaccessible to children. LPA observed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the FCCH. Detectors were tested (4:00 PM, 4:02 PM) and found to be operable. The FCCH has a regulation fire extinguisher which was service on 10/6/20. LPA reminded the Licensee to either service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually. The home maintains working telephone services. The backyard is enclosed by a combination of wooden and chain linked fencing.The fence\342\200\231s entry/exit gates are secure. The flooring is dirt and play structures sit atop form padding. Toys and play equipment observed in backyard are age appropriate. LPA observed a large propane tank in the backyard (CONT. 809-C) area which is enclosed by wooden fencing and inaccessible to children in care. There is a large bouncy slide in the front driveway of the FCCH. The base of the bouncy side contains a pool of water. The front door serves as a barrier to the bouncy slide and the Licensee informed LPA child only access the bouncy slide under the direct supervision of staff members. Further, Licensee informed LPA the bouncy slide is drained after each use. A sampling of the children records were reviewed. The records were current, complete and possessed emergency contact information as mandated by regulations. The Licensee's records are also current and complete with CPR and First Aid certifications expiring on 8/17/21. Likewise, the Licensee's Mandated Reported training certificate expires 6/15/23. The Licensee stated no firearms or ammunition are stored on site. The Licensee is not providing Incidental Medical Services (IMS). Policy was discussed. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. Licensee was reminded Licensee's responsibility to know the regulations for FCCH which can be accessed on-line at www.ccld.ca.gov . In areas evaluated, no deficiencies observed. LPA observed Licensee post the Notice of Site visit (LIC 9213).
