What the inspector wrote

On 12/10/2024, at 1:21 PM, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Joaquin Mendez and Fernando Hernandez conducted an unannounced Required 3year Annual Inspection of the Paz Family Childcare Home. LPA met with Joel Paz Jr, Licensee. The purpose of the visit was discussed with the Licensee and together we toured the inside and outside of the home. LPAs observed ten (10) children in care at the time of the inspection with one (1) assistant (S1). The home is a four (4) bedroom and three (3) bathroom home. The main day care areas are the front bedroom (1), living room (furnished into daycare), hallway bathroom, kitchen, dining room, and backyard play area. LPAs observed the off-limits areas which include the three (3) bedrooms and two (2) bathrooms and are made inaccessible to children in care by way of a gate in the hall leading to the back of the home. LPAs inspected the kitchen in its entirety and did not find anything toxic or hazardous accessible to children. \302\267 Knives were stored in an elevated cabinet inaccessible to children. \302\267 LPAs observed the cleaning supplies and chemicals in a locked elevated cabinet in the kitchen, inaccessible. \302\267 LPAs observed a fireplace which was locked and inaccessible to daycare children. LPAs explained the safety and security of the children must always be ensured while children are in care. \302\267 LPAs observed the day care area to be clean and orderly. \302\267 LPAs observed age-appropriate books, toy, games, tables, and chairs. LPAs reminded licensee to replace toys and furniture as needed when the quality of play structures is harmful to children in care. \302\267 LPAs note that at 2:10PM, LPAs observed two (2) walkers that are not permitted in the closet and inaccessible during the inspection in the first bedroom. Licensee stated they would donate the items and did not know the items were not permitted. LPAs supplied a list of items not permitted for future reference to the Continue on LIC809C licensee. \302\267 The fire extinguisher was observed with a purchase date 6/19/2024. LPA reminded licensee to replace or service fire extinguisher every year. \302\267 There is a combination carbon monoxide and smoke detector on the wall in the dining room and was tested 3:20PM. \302\267 The bathroom was clean with no toxins posing any immediate danger to children in care. The backyard is completely fenced by wood fencing. \302\267 Exits were securely locked. \302\267 LPAs observed age-appropriate toys and play structures. LPAs advised the licensee the importance of maintaining clean play structures with daily checks prior to allowing children in care access. \302\267 LPAs notes No bodies of water were observed. \302\267 LPAs reminded the Licensee to always keep inaccessible rooms inaccessible to children in care by lock or secured safety gate. Children's records were reviewed and found to be complete with all required documents. LPAs reminded Licensee the importance of maintaining license related documents for all children in care. LPAs reviewed the facility roster and is up to date. LPAs reviewed licensee\342\200\231s records. \302\267 Licensee is current with immunization required per SB 792 \302\267 Licensee\342\200\231s Mandated Reporter Training expires 11/20/2026. \302\267 The last Safety (fire) drill was conducted and documented on 10/08/2024. \302\267 Licensee is current with CPR and First Aid which expires 6/21/2026. LPAs reminded the Licensee to renew her certifications every two years. \302\267 No prohibited equipment will be allowed or used in the home. No baby bouncers, No infant walkers, No Johnny jumpers, No saucer chairs, No trampolines and any other item that falls into that category are not permitted in the facility. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living in the home, persons who provide care and supervision to children, and staff who have contact with children, including employees and volunteers, Continue on LIC809C except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5-days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30-days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPAs discussed the safe sleep regulations with Licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPAs also informed Licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. This facility provides Incidental Medical Services \342\200\223 IMS. LPAs reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children\342\200\231s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. During the exit interview, the LICENSEE Joel Paz Jr, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPAs completed the RSO profile in FAS on 12/10/2024. There were no deficiencies cited at this time. LPAs observed licensee post the Notice of Site visit FAILURE TO POST THE NOTICE OF SITE VISIT FOR 30 DAYS MAY RESULT IN A $100.00 CIVIL PENALTY. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Licensee Joel Paz Jr.
